Brooklyn Nets given permission to speak with Brian Shaw
The Brooklyn Nets have received permission to speak with Indiana
Pacers associate head coach Brian Shaw, who is considered their top
target, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.
Nets president Billy King will meet with Shaw and could present an offer, according to Yahoo! Sports.
King has done his research on Shaw, a process that is helped by King’s relationship with Pacers president Donnie Walsh, who King worked alongside with the Pacers years ago.
MORE: Lionel Hollins given permission to speak with other teams
Another option for the position is Memphis Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins, who was recently given permission to speak with other teams.
The Nets fired former coach Avery Johnson after a 14-14 start to the 2012-13 season. They finished the regular season 49-33 and suffered a first-round loss to the Chicago Bulls with P.J. Carlesimo as interim coach.
Shaw has been a hot name in the coaching world for quite some time. A 14-year NBA veteran, Shaw was a member of three title teams with the Los Angeles Lakers and served as an assistant on the 2009 and ‘10 title teams. Shaw was a popular pick among players to take over when Phil Jackson retired, but was passed over for Mike Brown, who was fired after five games.
