EXCLUSIVE: Aussie Quickflix enters Game of Thrones

AUSSIE online streaming company Quickflix has entered the 'Game of Thrones' by offering users the opportunity to own whole seasons for less money than its competitor iTunes.

From 2pm today, users will be able to stream individual episodes of seasons one, two and three of Game of Thrones, or they can purchase the entire season outright.
Episodes cost $2.99 each, (iTunes currently offers the show from $3.49 an episode). However, a season pass for season three will cost you exactly the same on iTunes and Quickflix. A standard-definition season pass costs $28.99 and an HD season pass costs $33.99.
When asked why Quickflix isn't offering a season pass for less money than iTunes, CEO Stephen Langsford told news.com.au that Game of Thrones "is highly sought after premium content".
"We think customers will be happy with our pricing," he said.
The announcement comes a month after Foxtel announced it would block the remaining seasons of Game of Thrones in Australia after signing an exclusive deal with the show's producers at HBO.
Unlike season one, two and three, season four will not be available to stream online hours after it has aired in the US. Users will only be able to stream the series after the last episode has aired on Foxtel.
Quickflix would not comment on whether it would fight to make season four available to stream as it airs.
"We're obviously delighted to be making available seasons one to three of Game of Thrones and other great HBO series available through Quickflix," Langsford told news.com.au.
"Season four of Games of Thrones is a way off and it's too soon to discuss its availability to Quickflix. We'll continue to respect the arrangements of our competitors in the market and make great content available as soon as we are able. "
Other HBO shows launching on Quickflix in June include True Blood, The Newsroom, Boardwalk Empire and Veep.
