Is the Beanieplex the best movie theatre ever?

Is the Beanieplex the best movie theatre ever?

  • Malaysian beanbag cinemas could be the world's most comfy
  • Each beanbag is designed to sit two people
  • Tickets are a lot cheaper than cinema tickets at home

FORGET the cramped, uncomfortable movie seats we've all begrudgingly become used to.
Take a look at the "Beanieplex" - it's a sight for sore eyes.
Launched by TGV Cinema in Malaysia last year, the futuristic, comfortable-looking "Beanieplex" features large seats with adjustable beanbags.
According to the TGV website: "The revolutionary Beanieplex, Malaysia's first cinema hall featuring bean bag seats, offers patrons a cosy and relaxed viewing experience and has become a favourite among the movie-goers".
Online reviews appear to agree, with users saying how it "feels like you're sleeping on a bed".
But there is one downside - beanbag chairs are more difficult to clean.
What about the price? While a visit to most Australia cinemas would cost the better part of $20, it costs RM 22 ($7.40) to get into the Beanieplex.
The Beanieplex tickets must be purchased in a pair (it's two people to each seat), or you need to pay  RM 38 ($13) to sit alone.
There are three Beaniplex cinemas in Malaysia: at Sunway Pyramid, 1st Avenue Mall in Penang, and Aeon Tebrau City Shopping Centre.
Other countries also have bean bag theatres. Singapore's WE Cinemas has a Beanbag Lounge at its Suntec City location, and there's a pop-up, movable Bean Bag Cinema in the UK.
Closer to home, Hoyts has a Bean Bag cinemas Melbourne, Perth and Mt Druitt (near Sydney), but it doesn't quite match the Malaysia offering.
Speaking of cool cinemas, the Archipelago in Thailand is a theatre that floats on water.
